In May 1941 Secretary of War Stimson informed President Roosevelt a new military HQ was needed. On 17 Jul 41 a congressional hearing took place. Funding was authorized on 28 July. Construction began on 11 Sep 41. The building was dedicated 16 months later on 15 Jan 43 At 6.5 million SF, the contract was for 31 million dollars (500 million in 2015 $$)
